We made it!

Hello everyone!

We've safely made it to Greece.  We had 2 uneventful flights and were picked up at the airport yesterday by Angeliki – our instructor’s wife.  Greece is gorgeous.  The landscape and the mountains are truly unique.  After about an hour and a half we arrived at the house we’ll be living in for the next month or so.  Its large, square, and white – with balconies and orange trees (we had an orange right off the tree last night & it was delicious!).  The beach is about a 1km walk from the house – its very rocky, but not like Maine rocks.  We are also within a couple minute walk to the center of Vrahati, where there are shops, cafes, and grocery stores.

The class before us is just finishing up this week so we were able to meet all the students last night.  They are all around our age – a girl from New York, a couple from New Jersey, a girl from Melbourne, a girl from Quebec, and another girl who we can’t place where she’s from… In other words it’s a full house and we’re currently sleeping on a “bed” in the living room/kitchen area.

We’ve got the week to settle in and relax which is nice.  We’re thinking of doing a couple day trips tomorrow and Friday – one day in Athens and one day in Nafplio.  Saturday we’ll be moving into our real room and between Saturday and Sunday our classmates will arrive.  We think that there will be about 5 of us altogether.

I guess that’s about it for now!  The internet connection is a bit spotty – so we’ll try to get on Skype in the next couple days.  Otherwise, we’ll be checking our email about once a day so keep ‘em coming!  We miss you all!!

Love, Sam & Chris

  1. Wonderful pictures (loved looking at the same full moon we saw here...nice connection w/ you two!) and first day highlights re: beach, housing etc. Went on and Googled Vrahati last night to learn a bit more about where you are. Saw pics of beach and downtown etc. Enjoy the next few days exploring :o) XO Bev and Scott

  3. Sam and Chris,
Thanks for posting this blog and letting us know you both made it safely. Has jet lag set in yet? Looking at the pictures, it appears it must be warmer there than it is in MA since you have no jackets on, but how much warmer? I saw there were umbrellas on the beach, so could it be warm enough to actually do some wave jumping?

Be sure to take the advantage of asking the current students their perspective on the class and their level of preparedness to actually venture into the job market and teach students.
Though it's too bad you didn't have the house to yourselves, and had to camp out on the couch, it must have been nice to meet others immediately, who could speak your own language.

Well, I've got to go back to work, so will run. Take care and definitely keep in touch.

    Love, Laura

  4. We definitely need to do a better job at keeping in touch. We knew you guys were going to Greece, but had no idea when...

Anyways, Vrahati looks beautiful. Wish we could come visit, but vacation time and money aren't that plentiful right now. How long are you guys going to be there?

Good to hear that you guys got there safely.

    Keep in touch!
